Increasingly, women are doubtful that men will elect them to high political offices. Sixty-three percent of women cite this as a leading reason for women not being represented in leadership positions, as compared to 31 percent of males. This gap isn’t just only confined to politics. The same problem exists in party systems. Women are more likely than men to believe that obstacles hinder them from succeeding.

Other examples include Stephanie Bice, the first Iranian-American woman to be elected to the House. She is also the first Iranian American to serve in the U.S. Congress. The Biden administration’s Summit for Democracy launched a array of commitments that are that aim to fight the headwinds to democracy that are affecting many countries. This increased the number of women represented within local government. Yet, men continue to have the majority in local decision-making. 98 % of municipal chair and mayoral positions are held by men.
